The distinction between valve repair and valve overhauls is not always easy to define. However, we will define overhauls as projects with significant downtime and scope of work. Most of the aftermarket projects we work on now are of this nature, due to increasing demands to keep equipment in service. In some instances an overhaul can even be far-reaching enough to result in the complete shutdown of a facility.
Valve overhaul is often required on the following conditions:
- Highly bespoke valves
- Obsolete valves
- Valves with limited future use
- Changing process conditions
Typical process of valve overhaul is as follows:
Initial Inspection and Assesment
Firstly the details of the valve and any instrumentation is noted down and loaded onto the system. We have a bespoke Valve Management Database (VMD) where every job is loaded on to the system to give real time updates of the progress of the valve as well as all the details of the valve.
Pictures are then taken of the valve before carrying out a function test and seat test with the results taken down in VMD.
Strip Down and Inspection
This will determine the condition of the valve but also the specific parts like the Trim and Seals. The conditions of the parts will be updated on the VMD with recommendations along with photos of any damage found.
Report and recommendations
This will determine the condition of the valve but also the specific parts like the Trim and Seals. The conditions of the parts will be updated on the VMD with recommendations along with photos of any damage found.
Sandblast and Paint
The valve will be completely shot blasted and cleaned up before being painted.
Reassembly
The valves and equipment will then be returned to working order. They may include new spares if they were specified in the previous stage.
Testing
With the equipment assembled its goes through the Testing Stage to ensure its working correctly and ready and fit for service.
Documentation and Packaging
After the equipment is returned to working order, it will get certified, packaged and sent to the customer.
